MES Solution

Challenge

They had a need on the monobloc assembly line. Components of the large assemblies of a tractor, such as axle, transmission, engine, everything that would be the soul of the tractor are on top of the monoblock.

There is a line responsible for manufacturing and assembling the rear axle, engine , front axle, and thus form the monoblock across the 12 workstations.

This assembly is done using autonomous carts, AGVs, from the Sinova brand. These carts advance along the stations and when it stops, the operators assemble what is their job, and then move on to the next work station. These large sets are coupled to these carts and at the last station, we have the monoblock ready.

They had a problem because it is not an exclusive line of one tractor model, there is always the possibility of new tractors in the line being assembled at the same time. In the twelve workstations we can eventually have twelve different tractor models, one at each station.

In 3 of the stations: 4, 6 and 8, there are tightening functions, where specific torques are applied to tractor assembly. At each moment there is a different tractor being assembled at different stations, with different torques and very specific characteristics. Therefore, they realized the difficulty of activating the correct torque for each model at the workstation.

Idea

We implemented 3 collection terminals and integration with the nutrunners that are responsible for applying the torque at these workstations.

Integration was possible because there at station 1, in entrance of the monoblock, at the first workstation, we identify the tractor and know its model and commercial code, we link this model to the assembly cart, which has an RFID reading to identify its position on the assembly line, so we can link it to the cart Sinova, what is the model of the tractor and its commercial code.

As this cart advances and arrives at station 4, 6 or 8, the RFID location system detects which ID of the tractor it is carrying and then the Sequor identifies, validates, selects the correct Job according to the torque and sends it to the nutrunner. The operator, in turn, applies this torque to the tractor and the nutrunner sends us the torque value that was applied.

Subsequently, Sequor stores this value in its database and provides confirmation or negative to the cart in order to proceed to the next workstation.

Earnings

Reduction in screwdriver setup time. Greater reliability in the traceability of applied torque values. Reduced human error in selecting the correct tightening program.
